Beach Art Shelter ~ Netiv Ha’asara ~ Schwarz Family

The Sponsor: Schwarz Family

Netiv HaAsara lit. ‘Path of the Ten’) is a moshav in southern Israel. Located in the north-west Negev, it falls under the jurisdiction of Hof Ashkelon Regional Council. In 2021 it had a population of 900. The moshav was founded in 1982 by 70 families who were residents of the former Israeli settlement of Netiv HaAsara in the Sinai Peninsula, which was evacuated as a result of the Camp David Accords. The original moshav had been named for ten soldiers that were killed in a helicopter accident south of Rafah in 1971, and was originally named “Minyan”. After the Israeli disengagement from Gaza in 2005, Netiv HaAsara became the closest community in Israel to the Gaza Strip, located 400 meters away from the edge of the Palestinian town of Beit Lahiya.

About this Art Shelter:

Some words from the donors ❤️

“The theme of the painting is Freedom, Love and Connection. Michael and Marcia have provided an incredible foundation of values in their children and grandchildren over many years through a strong focus on family, togetherness, and life experiences. Many memories have been created for multiple generations over the last 60+ years at gatherings at the family beach house. We felt bringing this feeling out through the painting of the bomb shelter could bring a sense of peace, love, and community in an environment constantly threatened by external forces. The light house is a guiding light, the pelicans exhibit a unique sense of freedom paradoxically combined with togetherness, while the family standing in solidarity overlooking the vast ocean portrays the continued strength and hope of Israel in the greater world.”

~ The Schwarz sons, their wives, and their children (i.e. the grandchildren) in honor of Michael and Marcia Schwarz (parents/grandparents).
